Version note: The current Hidden Juice guide is from July 26, while the deeper SSK moveset breakdown predates release. Core command names are cross-checked against the published move list; exact debris durability, frame advantage, and damage remain lab items.
Prepare debris before you cash out
Magneto's Metallic Meteor and Magnetic Blast create debris clouds when they hit or are blocked. The deeper moveset source also describes a Magnetized state when the opponent is struck by selected attacks. Debris and Magnetized change what his Skills do, so a raw special and a prepared special are different decisions.
The practical loop is:
- Place debris with Metallic Meteor or a projectile.
- Confirm whether the opponent is Magnetized or only blocking.
- Use Magnetic Blast to keep the lane occupied, or wait for the right Skill to spend the field.
- Rebuild the setup after the cash-out instead of repeating the same special with no resource.
The current creator's simplest advice is to get the field active quickly, then bully the opponent with projectiles and strong conversions. That does not mean throwing every projectile at full screen: the opponent's approach and your assist cooldown still decide whether the setup is safe.
Use air movement to change the projectile question
The published command list gives Magneto Multi-Dash and Free Flight. The pre-release moveset breakdown describes eight-way air dashes and flight as movement and baiting tools rather than instant aerial overheads. Use them to change height, retreat from a bad projectile trade, or call an assist while the opponent watches the debris.
Magneto's crouching Medium and Standing Heavy are the grounded entry points used in the cited combo routes. His down-Heavy anti-air works, but the current guide warns that the range is less forgiving than some other characters. Let the opponent enter the range you have tested instead of pressing it from too far away.
Spend the field on the problem in front of you
- Magnetic Blast: the basic projectile. The current guide highlights its speed, charge option, and an enhanced version with armor; use it to create debris or force the opponent to move before the next call.
- Gravity Bind: a command grab with grounded and aerial versions. The sources describe the heavy grounded version as the practical fast option and a Magnetized version that pulls the opponent toward Magneto. Verify the startup in the current frame display.
- Polarity Shift: a wall-breaking Skill and a route starter. Debris can increase its payoff, while a Magnetized grounded version may preserve the corner according to the deeper breakdown.
- Shrapnel Strike: places debris in a chosen area, pulls the opponent, and becomes more rewarding when the field is ready. The heavy version tracks the opponent's position in the cited footage; record its wake-up and blockstun behavior before treating it as airtight.
Magnetic Maelstrom scales with the debris setup in the source, while Magnetic Retribution creates a new field after the Ultimate. This makes the super choice part of the next interaction, not only the current damage number.
Start with a route that leaves the field useful
| Confirm | Route goal |
|---|---|
| Crouching Medium | Standing Heavy β Polarity Shift; stable mid-screen conversion |
| Prepared Unique | Metallic Meteor β Magnetic Maelstrom when the field and health justify the cash-out |
| Assist pickup | Shrapnel Strike β assist β grounded heavy into an air chain |
| Projectile hit | Magnetic Blast β air or grounded pickup; test each version at max range |
| Corner route | Keep the opponent near the wall with Polarity Shift instead of spending every debris cloud on damage |
Magneto's best route is not always the longest one. If the next decision needs a debris cloud, a knockdown, or a Magnetized opponent, end the combo in a state that preserves that resource.
Magneto lab checklist
- Record which actions create debris on hit and on block.
- Test Magnetic Blast with zero, one, and several clouds; note projectile interaction and follow-up timing.
- Record Gravity Bind's grounded and aerial ranges, including the Magnetized pull.
- Test Shrapnel Strike after wake-up, during blockstun, and against a backdash.
- Compare Magnetic Maelstrom damage with and without the field, then decide when the resource is worth spending.
