MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is built around a team of four, but the official beginner guidance makes one point clear: you do not need to master four characters at once. Learn one favorite first, then add teammates as your assist and switch timing improves.
Quick start
Start with Startup Battle. Its Basics section covers individual actions, while Assemble introduces team mechanics. The official guide recommends Captain America, Ms. Marvel, and Wolverine as beginner-friendly choices; Iron Man and Spider-Man are also described as relatively easy to learn.
Verified scope: These recommendations come from PlayStation's official beginner guide. They are not a competitive tier list.
Controls and Link Attacks
The Link Attack system lets you build an introductory combo by repeating one attack button:
| Input | Confirmed result |
|---|---|
| Light → Light → Light → Light | Chains into a Skill and can trigger a stage-transition Break |
| Medium → Medium → Medium | Leads into a Super Skill |
| Heavy → Heavy → Heavy | Leads into an Ultimate Skill |
A more advanced official example is Light → Medium → Heavy → Skill → Assemble Rush → follow-up attack. Traditional Command Inputs and one-button Quick Skills are both supported; Command Inputs provide slightly higher damage and more Skill Gauge.
For defense, hold back to stand guard or down-back to crouch guard. The official guide also documents Assemble Counter and Crossover as advanced defensive options.
Assists and character switching
Pressing the assist button calls a teammate. Adding a direction selects the teammate in the second, third, or fourth slot. Character switching uses a direction with the switch button, and an assist can create a short “Switch?” window for an assist-to-switch transition.
When building your first team, the official advice is to mix close-range and long-range specialists. Wolverine and Iron Man are given as one example. Treat that as a learning template, not a claim about the best competitive team.
Modes to learn in
The official Steam listing confirms Episode Mode, local versus, Training, All-Star Arena, and Arcadia Rumble. Online options include Ranked, Casual, and Room Match inside lobbies supporting up to 64 players. Online features require internet access and a PlayStation account.
Episode Mode presents team stories with motion-comic sequences before battles. Exact episode length and completion time are to be confirmed.
