Pre-release note: The ButtonMashers breakdown was published July 17, 2026 after beta sessions and before the August launch. The gauge loop and tool roles are useful starting points, but exact zone bonuses, recovery, and command-grab behavior should be retested after patches.
Ghost Rider's range is the easy part; the gauge is the homework
Ghost Rider has some of the largest grounded normals in the roster. Crouching Medium is a long low, standing Heavy reaches far, and the player can often win the first interaction without a complicated movement sequence. The character becomes much stronger when those hits are used to manage the Vengeance Gauge rather than fill it mindlessly.
The match plan is:
- Check the mid-range with a large normal.
- Confirm into a chain or fire Skill based on the current gauge zone.
- Raise Vengeance when the stronger fire version will matter.
- Lower it with chain actions before the bar reaches Overheat.
Vengeance is a resource loop, not a damage slider
Fire-based attacks raise the Vengeance Gauge and become stronger in later zones. The video shows additional hits and larger versions as the gauge climbs, but filling it completely triggers Overheat: Ghost Rider is left on the floor and the opponent gets a free punish.
Chain-based actions such as Revelator Chain, plus Hell Throttle and selected fire/chain sequences, lower the gauge. Alternate the two families deliberately:
- Raise: use Hellfire or Penance Driver when you have a confirm, assist cover, or a safe far-range call.
- Spend: use Revelator Chain or Hell Throttle to return from the red zone before the next neutral exchange.
- Cash out: if the fire route will end the round, take the damage instead of preserving a resource that will not be used.
The source compares the gauge zones to a stronger version of the same character. Treat the exact zone thresholds as live-build data; the stable lesson is simply never to let Overheat happen by accident.
Let the normals earn the right to press forward
Ghost Rider's standing Heavy and crouching Medium cover different parts of mid-range. Use the low to catch a walking defender and standing Heavy to make a dash or whiff punish hurt. His light buttons can stagger, but the guide does not recommend pretending they reach like the heavies.
Hellfire raises the gauge and works as a combo or blockstring bridge. Penance Driver is another way to route a hit and lower/raise the resource depending on the current sequence. Test each Skill at maximum range first; a long normal is only strong if the follow-up is not so close that the opponent can punish it.
Judgement Cradle is the pressure tree
Judgement Cradle is Ghost Rider's practical mix-up Skill. After the initial chain, the additional inputs provide:
- a light/faint branch that changes the timing,
- a medium low branch,
- a heavy overhead branch,
- and a dash or cancel option that can continue pressure.
The source describes the heavy follow-up as an overhead and the medium branch as a low. Neither branch is a free turn without cover: call an assist, check whether the opponent can mash, and remember that the chain also raises Vengeance. If the gauge is already near Overheat, finish with a lower-risk chain or reset the range.
Ghost Rider also has a command grab. The guide says the grab becomes more useful in a higher gauge zone because its range improves. Start with it after the opponent has blocked the chain branches; do not spend the resource on a raw full-screen guess.
Hell Scorcher makes a knockdown worth more
Hell Scorcher places lingering fire on the ground. In the corner, the cited video uses it on wake-up so a roll or a stay-in-place block has to respect the fire before Ghost Rider continues pressure. The heavy version reaches farther and can also contest neutral, but the exact meaty timing must be recorded against every reversal option.
Use the setup as a three-step drill:
- End a combo at a distance where Hell Scorcher covers the opponent's wake-up.
- Record block, jump, roll, and reversal responses.
- Add the Judgement Cradle low/overhead branch only after the fire remains active long enough.
Ghost Rider's unique assist can also place Scorcher. The source considers it more useful than his other assists, but that is a team-building opinion; choose it when the persistent fire solves a neutral or pressure problem your point character actually has.
