Spend Health to Unlock the Weird Stuff

Deadpool is a resource puzzle disguised as a rushdown character: take recoverable damage, unlock alternate specials, then cash out before the joke becomes a self-KO.

Launch-build note: Deadpool's resource interactions are unusually complex. The guide below separates creator observations from the published command list; exact damage, recovery, and secret-input behavior should be checked again after patches.

Gray life is a key, not free damage

Deadpool's Down + Unique Meat Shield damages him and creates recoverable gray life. While that gray life is present, the medium versions of several specials change into alternate attacks. The gray life also heals over time, so the state is temporary even when Deadpool does not get hit.

The first decision is therefore not β€œhow do I spend meter?” It is β€œwhen can I safely create gray life, and what alternate special will I use before it disappears?” Build the state behind an assist, after a knockdown, or during a route that already gives Deadpool time to act. Do not press the self-damage button raw in front of a character who can reach you immediately.

Learn the Unique buttons as separate jobs

  • Meat Shield: creates gray life and changes the medium-special table. It is the engine for the character's stranger conversions.
  • Collateral Damage: the forward Unique parries physical attacks and special moves in the cited guide, but the successful parry still gives recoverable damage. Treat it as a read, not a universal defensive answer.
  • Faulty Grenade: the back Unique starts a random grenade cycle. The creator explains that the cycle avoids repeating until the set has been exhausted; press the button again to throw it before it detonates.
  • Headpool: an aerial Unique can hover, change direction, drop the helicopter, or throw it with a chosen attack button. It can also be tagged during a conversion.
  • Roman Cancel: Unique plus an attack button can interrupt a normal or Skill and convert from situations that normally do not start a combo. It costs real health, not only gray life.

Write down the grenade-to-special relationship before trying advanced routes. The exact names and visual effects are funny; the important part is knowing which grenade makes the medium special you actually want to use.

The same button can mean a different move

Trigger Happy is the basic projectile and can be used in the air. With gray life, the medium version becomes the alternate β€œget over here” style attack described in the source, changing both its purpose and its conversion timing.

Chimichanga Chop is Deadpool's anti-air and combo ender. The heavy version bounces in the corner, while the aerial versions can extend a wall route. The medium version's crouching interaction is worth testing because the creator warns that it can whiff on crouching opponents.

Slice 'n Dice gives Deadpool a fast light extension, a medium ground bounce, and a heavy roll state. The move normally carries the opponent toward the next stage; if no stage remains, the wall-splat behavior becomes the useful conversion point. Gray life changes the medium version again.

Death from Above is the mix-up special. Light is the quick knockdown, medium delays and ground-bounces, and heavy travels farther and can cross up. The move does not use the same gray-life transformation, making it a useful constant while the rest of the kit changes.

Build routes around risk and recovery

SituationFirst route goal
Safe point hitConfirm into Slice 'n Dice or Chimichanga Chop without spending health
Gray-life routeMeat Shield β†’ alternate medium Skill β†’ stable pickup; verify that gray life remains long enough
Corner conversionHeavy Chimichanga Chop or medium Slice 'n Dice β†’ assist β†’ wall extension
Aerial scrambleHeadpool Hover β†’ attack throw or tag; record the landing timing before adding mix
Kill attemptUse Roman Cancel only when the extra conversion closes the round or prevents a reversal

Do not copy the longest route first. Deadpool's most damaging-looking routes may spend gray life, real health, a grenade state, and an assist in one sequence. A shorter route that leaves him alive and the next teammate ready is often the better match route.

Deadpool lab checklist

  1. Create gray life, wait for its recovery, and record which medium specials change at each point.
  2. Cycle the grenades and note which one enhances each medium Skill.
  3. Test Collateral Damage against a normal, a projectile, and a throw so the defensive gap is clear.
  4. Practice Death from Above landing in front and behind from both sides.
  5. Compare a Roman Cancel conversion with the same route without it; record real health, gray health, damage, and wall position.

If the final column says β€œI lost because I spent too much health,” the lab has already found the most important Deadpool lesson.
